Well, it’s a new year and so many releases are due out this year. It’s a great year to be a Book Nerd, with that being said this year I have two main goals.

The perfect title as it describes perfectly what this post is all about. A brown girl, living her best life as she reflects on how far she’s come in life after driving through her old neighborhood and being hit with a never felt before melancholy. I’m Sure Tori Burch would be okay with her words being used in this manner.
The more I would read, watch the news, witness human interactions, the more I realized there were so many things I still didn’t understand. To the dismay of my childhood bullies, I’m not a know it all.
You see I’m a single mom. I need to keep that balance for my son. I need to show him that women are strong, intelligent, and chingonas. Women must be respected, heard, and appreciated. While making sure he is surrounded by strong men, that are in tune with their emotions, intelligent, and driven. As a solo parent, I have extra work. But luckily for me I have a village. I have men in my life that have stepped up and filled this role.
I just finished reading Naomi Klein’s “On Fire: The (Burning) Case for a Green New Deal” and I can’t help but feel an urgency to help save our planet. I can’t help but get angry at the fact that we have not yet made the Green New Deal a reality. I hate the fact that people still do not realize as Greta has told us many times “our house is on fire!” I’m in California, so that should really scare us.
