Under The Berkeley Skies-Day 28: Frozen

Just so you know my intention was not to be late on this post; however, for some computer freezingreason my Mac froze and more than half of my rant was not saved. Since, it was late and I was tired I just took it as a sign from the Universe telling me it was bed time. Don’t worry I will start saving more often.

Why hello there sexy…how you doing?

As you can tell, I’m in a pretty good mood. Today was day 2 of me walking after work, I’m pretty proud of this accomplishment. Particularly because it starts getting dark by 5:30. But I’m doing my thing; however, I think I’m going to start walking with a flashlight. There was a near run in with a hybrid today. Luckily for me, I was able to see her big blue hybrid, because the poor thing didn’t see me. Good thing cars are big.

I’m not walking my normal routine yet, which is made up of primarily incline. I can only make it half ways before I start feeling some discomfort in my ankle. I am wearing my brace, which is why I’m a bit unclear as to if it’s helping or hurting me? Either way I was out there, and hustled enough to break a sweat. I did some good stretching and lawd was I stiff. I seriously need to get into yoga, my body is so tight, especially my lower extremities. Luckily for me, I have an acupuncture appointment, hopefully this will get the juices flowing in the right direction.

back pain

listen-now-promoToday was day four of the “Start The New You Now” webinar, I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t totally present today. I was listening, but not hearing. Plus, it was extremely hard to listen to, there was some audio difficulties that just made me unplug, and plug up to some R & B. Hey at least I stayed on track with some Soul Music…see what I did there?

I did listen to two podcasts when I came home, they were pretty interesting. Oh, and tonight’s movies was a good one. Short but straight to the point.

Some of the points I learned today, of what I did pay close attention to is the following:

  • Divine Discomfort: When things do not go as planned or what you would consider as bad is simply divine discomfort.

They further emphasized this point by stating that everything (again sounds cliche) has a reason for happening. Take a look back into that situation, what has happened since then? What changes have taken place in your life, yourself, or your environment? Are you stronger? Are you more spiritually connected? Take a deep look at what has happened since then, it would have most likely not happened if that ‘discomfort’ in your life had not taken place.

Is it nuts or are you just extremely comfortable in your victimhood?  Personally, I agree with this 100%. When the author was talking about this subject I couldn’t help but think of the year I had last year. I have declared it, yelled it, cried, and whined about it being the worst year of my life. Consequently, if this would have not happened, I would not be in my current state of mind or spirit.

I’m on a mission to take care of myself, I value my family even more, I’m working on my spiritual balance, working on my health, realized that I’m stronger that I gave myself credit for. I have found this new value and new definition for loyalty and friendship.

I wouldn’t be worrying about my self-care if I hadn’t gone through last year’s discomfort. Shit, I wouldn’t be writing this post if I had not realized that I was not doing writingwhat I love…talking about me! Kidding…well 75% kidding. Writing, I got so into my advocacy work, I quieted the writer in my soul.

  • Soul accomplishments: Any goals, intentions, or resolutions (really dislike that word) must come from the heart, not the head. This way they are aligned with your being and will motivate you even more to seeing it through. We must also always remember to acknowledge our past accomplishments, we can’t just discard them and strictly focus on the new ones. Those past accomplishments and even the smallest ones you’ve achieved, paved the way to were you are now.
  • warning signFeeling lost? Scared of where you are in your life? Feel out of place? Don’t worry, you’re not lost, you’re simply in new territory. You’re simply unfamiliar with the new scenario you find yourself in, don’t freak out. Give yourself some time to figure things out and then you’ll find yourself navigating the waters with no problem.

Is this not how you felt on your first day of school? First day on the job? Now look at you, you sexy beast, doing things all boss-like! Well, the same applies here.

  • Gluten Free products:  This I already knew but it was good to hear it from another source, this nutritionist stated that we have to be extremely careful when we purchase Gluten free products, because they mightGluteen free rate extremely high on the Glycemic Index, which can lead to type 2 Diabetes. As you know I’m trying to go as Wheat Free as possible and many think I’m just eating gluten free products, that’s not the case. Staying away from as many of those products as possible, replacing it with other foods . For example I don’t eat spaghetti, instead of replacing with rice or gluten free products, I simply use zucchini. I use a vegetable peeler to create thin-like ‘noodles’ and just mix it in with my lentils or beans.
  • Pam Grout
    Pam Grout

Then there was Pam Grout, talking about her book “E²:  9 Do-it-Yourself Energy Experiments That Prove Your Thoughts Create Your Reality” This book is so going on my book list. She was awesome, I loved her approach, extremely insightful. So what is it about? I’m sure the title explains it; however, for you slower folks I’ll explain it a bit.

What? Don’t get mad I’m not talking about you, I’m talking about the other guy.

Anyways her main focus is on how we have the power to create our realities via our thought process. We are in fact the creators of our surroundings, situations, joy, sorrows, successes, and failures. Whoa! I know, it’s deep.

Stop! Stop, saying not me. Sorry to break it to you honey, but yes you. Yes, me! Yes, those guys over there by the water cooler. Yes, all around!

mission:visionDid you not remember yesterday’s post of how I used my thought process to get my dream job? Here’s some more examples, have you ever woken up and just felt good, looked good, and damn you ended up having a good day? Because your thoughts were focused on how “good” you felt. They were focused on the “good.” vice versa for bad days. On those days, you can’t get on the freeway without showing someone that very special birdie you carry around with you, then when you get to work it just gets worse. Because your thoughts have already paved the way for the day you are going to have.

In her book she does this cool exercise, I’m going to try it soon. Get a wire hanger, hang

Chill, it's just an experiment!

it somewhere, now focus on it and envision it moving, if you are doing it correctly it should move. She also asks us to envision something small, a feather, a book, a dollar. For instance, I will find a dollar tomorrow morning or something or think of feathers, they should appear.

I know sounds like a lot of ‘new-age-hippie-crap’ but I’m a believer.  I’ve already declared something for tomorrow morning, let’s see if it happens. I’ll keep you posted.

Oh and tonights movie was pretty cool, short and to the point.

So I’m sure, I had written something else, I know I did. But I can’t remember. So this will be all for today.

Michael B. BeckwithBefore I go though, I would love to leave you with this quote from Dr. B. Beckwith’s “life Visioning” Yup, one of three books I’m currently reading, but this read is part of my morning meditation practice.

Gratitude is a prayer that acknowledges the gift of Existence, that we can laugh, dance, sing, love, eat, create, celebrate, heal, transform, and that have been fully equipped to become self-realized beings”

Words to live by!
