When you think of Las Vegas what comes to mind? Lights, shows, gambling? What about homeless and hungry children? No? Well, it’s there. In East Las Vegas at Whitney Elementary School 85% of the children are homeless the remaining percentage are of low income households. The current unemployment rate of Las Vegas is 12.1 and currently has one of the largest foreclosure rates in the country. Kindness and hope seem like something these children only read about; however, principal Sherrie Gahn is making things happen in her school and making a a world of difference in these children’s lives.
It doesn’t just stop there, she has set up a college fund to help whatever child wants to attend college but doesn’t have the economical means.
