Thought of the Day #2

Today, my day had a heaviness to it. I’m really not sure why or where it came from, but it was there and it was weighing me down (pun intended) all day. Not sure if it’s because I’m still dealing with the remnants of a cold or if it is something else.

You see, I kept wondering if there was such a thing as a “connection” when it comes to work. There’s one in romance and friendships, you immediately feel a connection with a person, an animal, a place, etc. But can you feel one to the work that you do? I think so. Is that not what they mean by “If you love what you do, it won’t feel like work” or whatever greeting card saying happily employed people say.

I think I’ve been one of those, but not sure if I am one now. Again, it could be just my stuffed up sinuses talking but it was loud enough for me to take notice.

Busy is not happy, it just means you have a lot of work that occupies your time. Liking the people you work with is not the same either, right? I don’t think it is. Liking the people you work with is not the same as liking the people you do the work for. Think more community less corporate on this one.

I can’t help but wonder what brought this on. Is it that I’m walking into work that someone else started, and there’s no real ownership on my part? Does it hit differently when you are hired for something that has an expiration date? Is it simply because there’s no real room to build relationships? Making everything feel transactional? Is it because you haven’t really been able to connect with anyone, feel as if you’re on your own island? Is it simply because I secretly wished I could have stayed one more day in bed; because 5 days are not enough (especially when it’s you and your kiddo sick), watching Lucifer on Netflix while taking shots of Dayquil?

Maybe.

It could be all of it.

It could also be none of it.

What I do know is that it’s heavy.

I also hope it’s gone tomorrow or at least soon.
